About Us
We are the Wheeler family from the Cedar Rapids,
Iowa, area.
The Wheeler Family after the 2003
Spring Concert
Jeff and Lu met at church in Cedar Rapids in 1985
and were married in 1986. We have two children who have been
educated at home. One is still being taught at home, and the
other is now attending Coe College.
Jeff grew up in Oklahoma and graduated from the
University of Missouri - Rolla with a degree in electrical engineering
in 1984. After working for a large company in Cedar Rapids for
nearly five years, he joined Parsons Technology, a very small software
company at the time, in 1989. During his nearly ten years at
Parsons Technology, he contributed to the development of QuickVerse,
a popular software product that put the Bible on the computer, and other
church- and Bible-related products. (For more information on this
history of QuickVerse and Parsons Technology, visit the personal website
of Craig Rairdin,
creator of QuickVerse.) Jeff is now affiliated with Laridian,
a new company that publishes Bible-related products for handheld
computers. He works from a home office and is able to spend more
time with his family. You can help perpetuate this lifestyle by
buying Bible software for your Pocket PC
computer or Palm Computing Connected Organizer
from Laridian!

Lu was born in Iowa but grew up in Cannon Falls,
Minnesota. She graduated from Drake University in 1985. She
is a registered pharmacist in the state of Iowa. She practiced
pharmacy at a local hospital until our first child was born, when she
became a stay-at-home mother. Now she is the primary teacher
of our children, and enjoys it very much. Lu enjoys finding and
reading good books, and has helped us all become more avid
readers.
Our children have been educated at home (aka:
homeschooled) since our oldest child was ready to enter first
grade. There are several advantages of educating your children at
home including a better education, an improved opportunity to reach the
heart of the child, and protecting their minds from the filth that
pervades a fallen society.
One
of the more obvious advantages and testimonies of home education for our
family has been this: our children like each other.
They do not criticize each other, compete with each other, or think that
the other one isn’t cool. Instead, they play with each other, do
projects with each other, and include each other in activities with
other friends.Don’t get me wrong; they’re not
perfect. But what a testimony when they love each other and
act like it, too!
In May 1999, we added a dog to our family.
Lu and the kids went to a farm one afternoon and came back excited about
the cute, cute puppies that they’d seen. Well, we’d tried dogs
before, mostly at Jeff’s request. But this time the other three
were excited and Jeff wasn’t. So, now we have a dog by the name
of Shep. He's a pretty good dog, though he dislikes UPS and FedEx
trucks. He'll hear them a block away and bark at them until he's
scared them away.
We are active in a
local evangelical church, and
have been involved in additional ministry opportunities such as the
local
homeschool group, a choir for homeschooled students, and leading
worship at a local care facility and a home for women.
No biographical information is complete without
some photographs.

Family Picture
This photo was taken at a wedding that we
attended in December, 1998. Lu doesn’t always wear glasses and
Jeff doesn’t always wear bow ties... plus, we aren’t so fuzzy
in real life! However, this will give you an idea of what
our fair family looks like.

Funny Picture
What better to follow a family picture
than a funny picture? Following one of our home church
gatherings last year, this picture was taken. We didn’t
know it was funny until the photo came back from the
developer. |

The photo above was taken at Silver
Dollar City in Branson, Missouri.
Thanks for coming to our small home on the
web. We hope you enjoy it!
May the words of my
mouth and the thoughts of my heart be pleasing to you, O Lord,
my rock and my redeemer.
